SWANAGE PIER

Swanage Pier is a Victorian Pier built in 1895 for local passenger ship services. After the Steamer services discontinued in 1966 the Pier fell into decline until the Swanage Pier Trust took it over in 1994. After raising £1,000,000 for its restoration it reopened in 1998. It won pier of the year in 2012.

The timber pile remains of the first Swanage Pier, built between 1859 and 1860, can still be seen beside the new pier. This Pier was used for the local stone quarrying industry and included a tramway. part of which can still be seen running the along the seafront.

Circular cruises between Poole and Swanage are available passing close to the chalk stacks of Old Harry Rocks and taking in all the sights Poole Harbour has to offer.
